Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!

Doxology:
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below,
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts, Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Call to worship: 1 Peter 1:3-9 (selected)
Pastor: All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God’s own family.
People: Now we live in the hope of eternal life because Christ rose again from the dead. And God has reserved for us, his children the priceless gift of eternal life;
Pastor: This priceless gift is kept in heaven for us, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
People: And Our God, in his mighty power, will make sure that we get there safely to receive it because of trusting in him. It will be ours on that coming last day for all to see.
Pastor: So be truly glad!
People: There is wonderful joy ahead, even though the going is rough for a while down here.
Pastor: You love him even though you have never seen him; though not seeing him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with the inexpressible joy that comes from heaven itself.
ALL: And so, our further reward for trusting him will be the salvation of our souls. Thanks be to God!

Songs of Praise

All Creatures of Our God and King (Francis of Assisi, 1225; tune from 1623)
All Creatures of Our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heav’n along,
O praise him, alleluia!
Thou rising morn in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening find a voice,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

All ye who are of tender heart, forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye, alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, praise God and on him cast your care,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless, and worship him in humbleness,
O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, three in one,
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

I Believe in Jesus (Marc Nelson, 1987)
I believe in Jesus, I believe He is the Son of God.
I believe He died and rose again, I believe He paid for us all.
And I believe that He’s here now, standing in our midst,
here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

I believe in Jesus, I believe He is the Son of God.
I believe He died and rose again, I believe He paid for us all.
And I believe that He’s here now, standing in our midst,
here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

I believe in You, Lord, I believe You are the Son of God
I believe You died and rose again, I believe You paid for us all.
And I believe that You’re here now, standing in our midst,
here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive,
here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

No Longer Slaves (Jonathan Helser, Joel Case, Brian Johnson, 2015)
You unravel me with a melody, you surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies, till all my fears are gone.

I’m no longer a slave to fear; I am a child of God.
I’m no longer a slave to fear; I am a child of God.

From my mother’s womb, you have chosen me;
Love has called my name.
I’ve been born again into a family, your blood flows through my veins.
I’m no longer a slave to fear; I am a child of God.
I’m no longer a slave to fear; I am a child of God.

Oh, oh, oh—Oh, oh, oh—Oh, oh, oh—Oh, oh, oh—

You split the sea so I could walk right through it;
my fears were drowned in perfect love.
You rescued me so I could stand and sing: “I am a child of God!” (2X)
I am a child of God, Yes I am a child of God.

Confession/Assurance

Respond in Praise:

Jesus, Lover of My Soul (Charles Wesley, 1740; tune Joseph Parry, 1879)
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,
while the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high:
hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last!

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on thee;
leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me!
All my trust on thee is stayed, all my help from thee I bring;
cover my defenseless head with the shadow of thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want; more than all in thee I find:
raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name; I am all unrighteousness;
false and full of sin I am, thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within:
thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of thee;
spring thou up within my heart, rise to all eternity.

Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:1-4
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
This is the Word of the Lord.

Sermon: “Put on the New Self”     (recorded sermon will be posted when available)

Hymn of Dedication:

Days Without Number (Renee Allsbrook)
We have forgotten You, days without number,
shrunk down the sky so blue onto a screen.
We’ve forgotten You, day after day, we’ve forsaken You,
blindly stumbled away, we’ve forgotten You, turning insane,
we’ve forgotten You.

Lord have mercy on my soul, Lord have mercy on my children,
Lord have mercy on the broken, Lord have mercy on me.
Christ, have mercy on my soul, Christ have mercy on my children,
Christ have mercy on the broken, Christ have mercy, mercy, mercy, Lord, on me.

Weary of vanities, parched from indulgence,
I lift my hands to Thee, crying for rain!
You are Goodness, Lord—mercy defines You,
You’re Kindness, Lord—You lift up the humble,
You’re Holiness, Righteousness, You are Faithfulness, Faithfulness,

Have mercy on my soul, Lord have mercy on my children,
Lord have mercy on the broken, Lord have mercy on me.
Christ have mercy on my soul, Christ have mercy on my children
Christ have mercy on the broken, Christ have mercy, mercy, mercy, Lord, on me!

Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:
for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving:

Take My Life, and Let it Be   (Frances Havergal, 1874; tune Henri Malan, 1827)

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of the thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee,
Swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing, always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose,
ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure-store.
Take my self, and I will be ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.

Benediction
