Call to worship:   Psalm 61:1-4

Leader:        Hear my cry, O God;

attend unto my prayer.

People:        From the ends of the earth will I call out to You

whenever my heart is faint.

Leader:        Lead me to the rock

that is higher than I.

People:        For You have been my refuge,

a tower of strength against the enemy.

All:                 Let me dwell in Your tent forever

and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings!

Songs of Praise:

Come, Let Us Worship (Fernando Ortega, 2006 CCLI Song #4854735)

Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker;

Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker. (2X)

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand.

Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand.

Worship the Lord in holiness; let the whole earth stand in awe.

He will come to judge the world in righteousness and truth…

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.

He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand. (2X)

Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

I Could Sing of Your Love Forever (Martin Smith, 1994 CCLI Song #1043199)

Over the mountains and the sea, your river runs with love for me,

And I will open up my heart and let the Healer set me free.

I’m happy to be in the truth, and I will daily lift my hands,

For I will always sing of when your love came down.

I could sing of your love forever, I could sing of your love forever.

I could sing of your love forever, I could sing of your love forever. (Repeat)

What a Friend We Have in Jesus (Joseph Scriven, 1855; tune Charles Converse, 1868)

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry ev’rything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry ev’rything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged: take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness—take it to the Lord in prayer!

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge—take it to the Lord in prayer!

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In his arms he’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

Confession/Assurance

Respond in Praise:

Jesus, Only Jesus (CCLI Song #6517269)

(Nathan & Christy Nockels/Matt Redman/Kristian Stanfill/Chris Tomlin/Tony Wood, 2013)

Who has the power to raise the dead? Who can save us from our sin?

He is our hope, our righteousness—Jesus, only Jesus.

Who can make the blind to see? Who hold the keys that set us free?

He paid it all to bring us peace—Jesus, only Jesus.

Chorus: Holy King, Almighty Lord, saints and angels all adore;

I join with them and bow before Jesus, only Jesus.

3.Who can command the highest praise? Who has the name above all names?

You stand alone, I stand amazed—Jesus, only Jesus. (Chorus X2)

Bridge: You will command the highest praise;

Yours is the name above all names.

You stand alone, I stand amazed—Jesus, only Jesus…Jesus, only Jesus.

You will command the highest praise;

Yours is the name above all names.

You stand alone, I stand amazed—Jesus, only Jesus,

Jesus, only Jesus…I worship Jesus, only Jesus.

Scripture Reading:    Matthew 6:5-15

The Lord’s Prayer

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.[a]

10 Your kingdom come,

your will be done,[b]

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread,[c]

12 and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.[d]

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Sermon:  ” When you pray…

Hymn of Dedication:

One Pure and Holy Passion (Mark Altrogge, 1988 CCLI Song #270224)

Give me one pure and holy passion,

And give me one magnificent obsession;

Give me one glorious ambition for my life:

To know and follow hard after you.

(Repeat)

Chorus:

To know and follow hard after you, to grow as your disciple in the truth.

This world is empty, pale and poor, compared to knowing you my Lord;

Lead me on and I will run after you,

Lead me on and I will run after you.

Give me one pure and holy passion,

And give me one magnificent obsession;

Give me one glorious ambition for my life:

To know and follow hard after you.

Chorus:

To know and follow hard after you, to grow as your disciple in your truth.

This world is empty, pale and poor, compared to knowing you my Lord;

Lead me on and I will run after you,

Lead me on and I will run after you (Repeat Chorus)

Tag: Lead me on and I will run after you.

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving:

Be Thou My Vision (Irish poem and trad. Irish melody, 8 th century, tr. Mary Byrne, Eleanor Hull)

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art—

Thou my best thought by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom and thou my true word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father, I thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

Be thou my battle shield, sword for my fight;

Be thou my dignity, thou my delight,

Thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tower:

Raise thou me heav’n-ward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’n’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Benediction
