Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!  And also with you!

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise him all creatures here below,

Praise him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Amen

Call to Worship:   Psalm 45:1-7

Leader:    My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king;

my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.

Congregation:  You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips;

therefore God has blessed you forever.  Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one,

in your splendor and majesty!

Leader:  In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds!

Congregation:  Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; the peoples fall under you.  Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.

ALL:  The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.  Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;

Songs of Praise:

Come, Thou Almighty King (Anon., ca 1757; tune Felice de Giardini, 1769)

Come, thou Almighty King, help us thy name to sing,

help us to praise.

Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,

come and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

Come, thou Incarnate Word, gird on thy mighty sword,

our prayer attend.

Come, and thy people bless, and give thy Word success;

Spirit of holiness, on us descend.

Come, Holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear

in this glad hour.

Thou who almighty art, now rule in every heart,

and ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power.

To the great One in Three eternal praises be,

hence evermore.

His sovereign majesty may we in glory see,

and to eternity love and adore.

Lay Me Down (Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Jason Ingram, Jonas Myrin, 2013 CCLI #6223577)

With this heart open wide, from the depths from the heights

I will bring a sacrifice.

With these hands lifted high, hear my song, hear my cry,

I will bring a sacrifice, I will bring a sacrifice.

Chorus:
I lay me down, I’m not my own, I belong to you alone,

Lay me down, lay me down, Oh—

Hand on my heart, this much is true: there’s no life apart from you,

Lay me down, lay me down.

(2nd time: Lay me down, lay me down.)

Letting go of my pride, giving up all my rights,

Take this life and let it shine,

Take this life and let it shine. (Chorus)

Bridge: It will be my joy to say, “Your will, your way,”

It will be my joy to say, “Your will, your way,”

It will be my joy to say, “Your will, your way, always!” (Repeat)

Chorus:
I lay me down, I’m not my own, I belong to you alone,

Lay me down, lay me down, Oh—

Hand on my heart, this much is true: there’s no life apart from you,

Lay me down, lay me down, Oh—

Lay me down, lay me down, Oh—

Lay me down, lay me down.

He Will Hold Me Fast (Ada Ruth Habershon, Matt Merker, 2019 CCLI #7016161)

When I feel my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast.

When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast

I could never give my hope through life’s fearful path

For my love is often cold; he must hold me fast

Chorus:

He will hold me fast, he will hold me fast,

For my Savior loves me so; he will hold me fast.

Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast;

Precious in his holy sight, he will hold me fast.

He’ll not let my soul be lost, his promises shall last,

Bought by him at such a cost, he will hold me fast. (Chorus)

For my life he bled and died; Christ will hold me fast.

Justice has been satisfied, he will hold me fast.

Raised with him to endless life, he will hold me fast,

till my faith has turned to sight, when he comes at last. (Chorus X2)

Confession/Assurance    Psalm 51:1-7

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love;

according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight,

so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.   Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Respond in Praise:

There is A Fountain (William Cowper, 1771; tune Lowell Mason, 1838)

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins;

And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains:

Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains,

And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;

And there have I, as vile as he, washed all my sins away:

Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away;

And there have I, as vile as he, washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, your precious blood shall never lose its pow’r,

Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more:

Be saved to sin no more, be saved to sin no more,

Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.

Ever since by faith I saw the stream your flowing wounds supply,

Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die:

And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die,

Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

Scripture   Revelation 8

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.   Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.   And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.   Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings,  flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The Seven Trumpets

Now the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.   The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.   The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.   A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.  The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.   The name of the star is Wormwood.  A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had been made bitter.  The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.  Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Sermon “Salvation Belongs to Our God”

Hymn of Dedication

Jesus Strong and Kind (Rich Thompson, Jonny Robinson, Michael Farren, Colin Buchanan; CCLI #7139992)

Jesus said that if I thirst
I should come to him;
No one else can satisfy,
I should come to him.

Jesus said if I am weak
I should come to him;
No one else can be my strength,
I should come to him.

Chorus:
For the Lord is good and faithful,
He will keep us day and night.
We can always run to Jesus,
Jesus, strong and kind.

Jesus said that if I fear
I should come to him;
No one else can be my shield,
I should come to him. (Chorus)

Jesus said if I am lost
He will come to me.
And he showed me on the cross:
He will come to me. (Chorus 2X)

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving

Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us (Dorothy Thrupp, 1836; tune William Bradbury, 1859)

Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need thy tender care;

In thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use thy folds prepare:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast bought us, thine we are;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast bought us, thine we are.

Thou hast promised to receive us, poor and sinful though we be;

Thou hast mercy to relieve us, grace to cleanse, and power to free:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, let us early turn to thee;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, let us early turn to thee.

Early let us seek thy favor; early let us do thy will:

Blessed Lord and only Savior, with thy love our beings fill:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast loved us, love us still;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast loved us, love us still.

We are thine; do thou befriend us, be the guardian of our way;

Keep thy flock, from sin defend us, seek us when we go astray:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, O hear us when we pray;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, hear, O hear us when we pray.

Benediction
