PROVIDENCE CHURCH

  November 15, 2020

Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!  And also with you!

Call to worship:   Psalm 91:9-19
Leader: “The Lord is our refuge,” the Most High is our dwelling place,

People: no harm shall overtake you; no disaster will come near your tent.

Leader: For God will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

People: they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Leader:  You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

People: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue them; I will protect them, for they acknowledge my name.

Leader:  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

All:  With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Songs of Praise

All Creatures of Our God and King (Francis of Assisi, 1225)

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing alleluia, alleluia!

Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam,

O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heav’n along, O praise him, alleluia!

Thou rising morn in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening, find a voice,

O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

All ye who are of tender heart, forgiving others, take your part, O sing ye, alleluia!

Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, praise God and on him cast your care,

O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless, and worship him in humbleness, O praise him, alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, three in one,

O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Come and Rejoice

Come with rejoicing, the Father is calling those who would worship in Spirit and truth.

Come with your singing, come with thanksgiving; Jesus our Savior has made all things new.

Chorus:

Come and rejoice, O holy nation; come and sing praises to Him.

Come and bow down, worship before Him,

Jesus the King of all kings, Jesus the King of all kings.

The Lord of Creation is full of compassion, seated in splendor, adorned with all grace,

Majestic and glorious, reigning victorious, now and forever enthroned on our praise. (Chorus)

With the sound of the trumpet He summons the nations, calling a priesthood to go in His name;

To show forth His power to this generations, to worship before Him, a kingdom of praise. (Chorus)

Amen

Behold, Jehovah, seated on the throne,

Abba, Father, the wealth that overflows,

The God who was and is and shall be forevermore: Holy is the Lord

Chorus:

Amen, Amen! Blessing and honor and glory and power, Amen!

Amen, Amen! Blessing and honor and glory and power, Amen.

Behold, the Way, the Truth and the Life,

Perfect Savior, the blood that washed us white,

The God who was and is and shall be forevermore: Holy is the Lord (Chorus)

Bridge:

Holiness has a name, and it’s Jesus.

Victory has a name, and it’s Jesus.

The Word has a name, and it’s Jesus.

Redemption has a name, and it’s Jesus (Repeat)

Chorus:

Amen, Amen! Blessing and honor and glory and power, Amen!

Amen, Amen! Blessing and honor and glory and power, Amen!

Amen, Amen! Amen, Amen.

Confession/Assurance

Respond in Praise:

Speak, O Lord (Gettys/S. Townsend)

1 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You

to receive the food of Your Holy Word

Take Your truth, plant it deep in us

Shape and fashion us in Your likeness

That the light of Christ might be seen today

In our acts of love and our deeds of faith

Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us

All Your purposes for Your glory

2 Teach us, Lord, full obedience
Holy reverence, true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity

Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of pow’r that can never fail—
Let their truth prevail over unbelief

3 Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds

Help us grasp the heights of your plans for us

Truths unchanged from the dawn of time

That will echo down through eternity

And by grace we’ll stand on your promises

And by faith we’ll walk as you walk with us

Speak, O Lord till your church is built

And your church is filled with your glory

 Scripture Reading:    Revelation 2:12-17

To the Church in Pergamum

12 “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.

14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. 15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Sermon: The White Stone

Hymn of Dedication:

Spirit Song (John Wimber, 1979)

O let the Son of God enfold you with his Spirit and his love,

Let Him fill your life and satisfy your soul

O let Him have the things that hold you, and his Spirit like a dove

Will descend upon your life and make you whole.

Chorus:
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

O come and sing the song of gladness as your hearts are filled with joy;

Lift your hands in sweet surrender to his name.

O give Him all your tears and sadness, give him all your years of pain,

And you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name. (Chorus X2)

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving:

Be Thou My Vision (Ancient Irish poem, ca. 8th century)

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art—

Thou my best thought by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father, I thy true son;

Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

Be thou my battle shield, sword for my fight;

Be thou my dignity, thou my delight,

Thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tow’r:

Raise thou me heav’nward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’n’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Benediction
