Welcome
Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you! And also with you!
Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him all creatures here below,
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Amen
Call to Worship: Selections from Matthew
Leader: Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.
Congregation: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart
and you will find rest for your souls.
Leader: I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry
and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
Congregation: And anyone who comes to me I will never cast out.
ALL: Therefore: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Songs of Praise:
Come, Let Us Worship (Fernando Ortega, 2006 CCLI Song #4854735)
Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker;
Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker. (2X)
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand.
Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand.
Worship the Lord in holiness; let the whole earth stand in awe.
He will come to judge the world in righteousness and truth…
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.
He is our God, He is our God, and we are the sheep of his hand. (2X)
Come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
What a Beautiful Name (Brooke Ligertwood & Ben Fielding, 2017 CCLI #7068424)
You were the Word at the beginning, one with God the Lord Most High;
Your hidden glory in creation now revealed in you, our Christ—
What a beautiful name it is, what a beautiful name it is,
The name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a beautiful name it is, nothing compares to this,
what a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus.
The world was lost in sin and darkness,
So Jesus you brought heaven down.
My sin was great—your love was greater;
What could separate us now?
What a wonderful name it is, what a wonderful name it is,
The name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a wonderful name it is, nothing compares to this,
What a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus,
What a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus…
…Death could not hold you, the veil tore before you,
You silence the boast of sin and grave.
The heavens are roaring the praise of your glory,
For you are raised to life again.
You have no rival, you have no equal,
Now and forever, God, you reign.
Yours is the kingdom, yours is the glory,
Yours is the name above all names!
What a powerful name it is, what a powerful name it is,
The name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a powerful name it is, nothing can stand against,
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus…
What a beautiful name it is, what a beautiful name it is,
The name of Jesus Christ my King.
What a beautiful name it is, nothing compares to this,
what a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus.
What a wonderful name it is, the name of Jesus,
What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus.
Fairest Lord Jesus (Muster Gesangbuch, 1677; tune Schlesische Volkslieder, 1842)
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor,
thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.
Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
who makes the woeful heart to sing.
Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling, starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heav’n can boast.
Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.
Confession/Assurance Isaiah 53:2-6
He had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and as one from whom we hide our faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Respond in Praise:
Nothing But the Blood of Jesus (Robert Lowry, 1876)
What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Chorus: O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone—nothing but the blood of Jesus;
naught of good that I have done—nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Chorus)
This is all my hope and peace—nothing but the blood of Jesus;
this is all my righteousness—nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Chorus 2X)
Scripture Revelation 9
And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone. And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.
In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like lions’ teeth; they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. They have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people for five months is in their tails. They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.
The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come. Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar before God, saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind. The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number. And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire[c] and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths. By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.
The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!
Sermon “A Bad One”
Hymn of Dedication
Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me (J. Robinson, R. Thompson, M. Farren, CityAlight 2018)
What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his
Oh how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior He will stay
I labor on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me! (Repeat section)

Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:
for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen
Hymn of Thanksgiving
Blessed Assurance (Fanny Crosby, 1873; tune Phoebe Knapp, 1873)
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. (Chorus)
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in his love. (Chorus 2X)
Benediction
