Due to some issue with Zoom this morning we were unable to meet.   Pastor Edward, Natalie and Renee recorded the service and we have posted to YouTube.

Due to it’s length, there are 3 parts:

PROVIDENCE CHURCH   MAY 17, 2020

Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!

Doxology:

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow,

Praise Him all creatures here below,

Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts,

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Call to worship:   Psalm 61 – A responsive reading

Pastor:  Hear my cry, O God; Listen to my prayer.  From the ends of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak;

People: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I am.   For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the enemy.
Pastor:  Let me dwell in Your tent forever; let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
People: For You have heard my vows, O God;  You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name and reverence You.
Pastor:  You will prolong the king’s life  by adding days upon days;  His years will be like many generations.
People: He will sit enthroned forever before the face of God; appoint lovingkindness and truth to watch over and preserve him.
ALL:  So I will sing praise to Your name forever, paying my vows day by day.

Song of Praise:  How Firm a Foundation   (Rippon’s Selection of Hymns, 1787; trad. American melody)

How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord,

is laid for your faith in his excellent Word!

What more can he say than to you he has said,

to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not, I am with you, O be not dismayed;

for I am your God, and will still give you aid;

I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,

upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

“When through the deep waters I call you to go,

the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;

for I will be with you, your troubles to bless,

and sanctify to you your deepest distress.

“When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie,

my grace, all-sufficient, shall be your supply;

the flame shall not hurt you; I only design

your dross to consume and your gold to refine.

“The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,

I will not, I will not desert to his foes;

that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.

That soul…though all hell…should endeavor to shake…

I will never, no never, no never forsake.”

Confession/Assurance:

Respond in Praise:   My Stronghold (John Michael Talbot)

Only in God is my soul at rest;

In Him comes my salvation.

He only is my rock, my strength, and my salvation.

My stronghold, my Savior, I shall not be afraid at all.

My Stronghold, my Savior, I shall not be moved.

Only in God is found safety

when the enemy pursues me.

Only in God is found glory when I am found meek and lowly.

My stronghold, my Savior, I shall not be afraid at all;

my Stronghold, my Savior, I shall not be moved.

(Repeat first verse & chorus)

Scripture Reading:     Psalm 61

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.  From the ends of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; lead me to the rock that is higher than I am.  For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the enemy.  Let me dwell in Your tent forever; let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.  For You have heard my vows, O God; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name and reverence You.  You will prolong the king’s life by adding days upon days; His years will be like many generations.  He will sit enthroned forever before the face of God; appoint lovingkindness and truth to watch over and preserve him. So I will sing praise to Your name forever, paying my vows day by day.

 This is the Word of the Lord.

I will focus on physical protection, emotional protection and spiritual protection from our enemies and fears.

 Physical protection: For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the enemy.

Emotional protectionLet me dwell in Your tent forever; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.

Spiritual Protection: He will sit enthroned forever before the face of God; appoint lovingkindness and truth to watch over and preserve him.

Prayers of the people: Pray for yourself, family and community, nation and the world.

Hymn of Thanksgiving:   Living Hope (Phil Wickham & Brian Johnson, 2018)

How great the chasm that lay between us,

How high the mountain I could not climb

In desperation, I turned to heaven

And spoke your name into the night.

Then through the darkness your lovingkindness

saw through the shadows of my soul.

The work is finished, the end is written,

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope.

Who could imagine so great a mercy,

What heart could fathom such boundless grace?

The God of Ages stepped down from glory

To wear my sin and bear my shame.

The Cross has spoken, I am forgiven,

The King of kings calls me his own.

Beautiful Savior, I’m yours forever,

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope

Chorus: Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free!

Hallelujah, Death has lost its grip on me!

You have broken every chain,

there’s salvation in your name,

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope!

Then came the morning that sealed the promise,

your buried body began to breathe.

Out of the silence, the roaring Lion

declared the Grave has no claim on me. (repeat)

Jesus, yours is the victory!

Hallelujah praise the One who set me free!

Hallelujah, Death has lost its grip on me!

You have broken every chain,

there’s salvation in your name,

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope! (repeat)

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope,

Jesus Christ, my Living Hope,

O God you are my Living Hope!

Benediction
